摘要:地理学是一门古老的学科,也是一门不断发展变化的学科,尤其在中国,近30年来地理学的发展日新月异。然而,伴随着分支学科越来越多,对地理学的认知也出现了不少困惑。从地理学一级学科建设和学术共同体培育的角度,亟需寻找地理学发展的“共识”,探讨地理学共同体的定义。为此,对地理学充满热爱之情的老中青三代地理学者,对如何推动统一地理学建设提出了各自的见解。这些见解中的共识大体可提炼为以下几点:① 教学上,加强对地理学综合知识体系的传授,加强对地理学调查研究方法的训练;② 研究上,加强对地理学研究范式的总结,加强对“地”的综合解释和理论方法方面的融合与突破;③ 学科发展上,加强区域地理学的建设,加强对国家和地方需求的回馈,彰显地理学的贡献。期待通过学界的共同努力,带动地理学共同体的日益壮大。

主题解析:
最近,国内一些大学的地理院系纷纷更名回归“地理学院”。在“双一流”建设大潮下,一些地理学相关院校也掀起了如何凝练地理学一级学科的讨论。然而,另一方面,地理学“三驾马车”的自然地理、人文地理、GIS已经各自向外开拓。自然地理更“自然”,与环境、生态、大气、海洋等相关学科交叉颇多;人文地理更“人文”,与经济、社会、历史、政治、人类学等相关学科彼此交织;GIS更“技术”,与遥感、测绘、计算机等相关学科共舞多年。三门分支学科在成果认定、人才培养、学科建设的需求等方面已有明显差异。作为共同的学科母体,作为一个学术共同体,如何建设统一的“地理学”?地理学是否还有共通的研究评价标准?是否还有共通的研究课题、研究方法?地球表层系统、人地关系、综合性、区域性,这些概念是否还是共通的认知基础?
如果“回归地理学”是需要的,那么如何回归?地理学的共同研究主题是什么?作为地理学者“共同体”的核心认同(Identity)是什么?自然地理、人文地理、GIS之间如何务实推进相互融合与交流?如果认为不需要“回归”,那应该如何告诉下一代年轻学者?
回顾过去,20世纪80年代由于地理学专业就业不畅,没有对口单位,学生分配困难,导致地理专业在高中毕业生中不受欢迎,无人报考;在大学阶段,学生学习热情不高,忧心前途,频繁转专业。这种现象迄今犹存余波。20世纪90年代由于全国高考取消地理科目,导致地理学就业雪上加霜,又对地理学的发展造成负面影响。在此背景下国内各地理院校纷纷改名或拓展方向以求自保,发展如旅游、城乡规划、环境保护、灾害管理、土地资源、地籍测量等相关专业。这种影响一直绵延至今。这些现象的背后,当然有外部环境的影响,但也有地理学自身研究对象、人才培养方向不清的内因,而后者应是更为根本的因素。
进入21世纪,中国地理学的发展环境得到很大改善。公众认可度日益提高,国家各类建设需求日益高涨,使地理学家日益走向前台。这是老一辈地理学家逆境奋发、艰苦奋斗的结果。在此基础上,需要强健地理学的“内核”,做好内化的工作,这是当下每一位地理学工作者的责任。
在“双一流”背景下,地理学一级学科的建设提上日程,这对凝练地理学“内核”是一个千载难逢的机会。2017年9月和10月,中国地理学会青年工作委员会连续在南京师范大学和安徽师范大学召开两次学术会议,围绕“回归地理学的研究范式与方法”,与会学者展开了富有成效的热烈讨论。这个话题应该持续地、更开放地讨论下去。
How to revive geography: Our reflection and practice
Abstract: Geography is an ancient discipline, yet it is also continuously evolving. Especially in China, geography has been developing rapidly in the past 30 years. However, with the emergence of more and more branches and sub-disciplines, we are facing increasing confusions about geography. For the consideration of construction of geography discipline and its academic community, we are in an urgent need to find a "consensus" on the development of geography and explore the definition of geography community. To this end, we organized a
series of workshops and conferences last year to provide a platform for different generations of geographers to express their opinions on how to promote the development of geography in China. This article is a summary of the viewpoints based on the recordings of the conference.
In general, several consensuses have been reached as follows:
(1) In teaching, we should enhance the omprehensiveness of courses of geography and strengthen the training of methods for geographical investigation and research;
(2) In academic research, we should strengthen the summary of the paradigms in geography, provide more comprehensive explanations of "geo" and accelerate the integration and innovation in geographical theories and methods;
(3) In disciplinary development, we should highlight the construction of regional geography, emphasize the national and local needs in policy-making, and demonstrate the contribution of geography. We hope that with our joint efforts, both the discipline and community of Chinese geography will be growing stronger in the future.
